University Park is a public-private partnership project between West Virginia University and University Park at Evansdale, LLC. The $112 million multi-purpose development is an integral part of WVU’s current student housing master plan adopted by the WVU Board of Governors to provide modern accommodations on the University’s campus. University Park has replaced current housing located nearby at Fieldcrest Hall and the Medical Center Apartments, both of which which have been demolished, and Pierpont Apartments, where the lease has not be renewed. Site prep began with demolition of existing structures in November 2013. Construction of the project started in January 2014 and was completed in August of 2015. University Park consists of six structures totaling 434,104 square feet. The freshman residence hall consists of two, 9-story towers and a 2-story connector. Additionally, University Park is home to two 5-story student apartment buildings, and one 4-story mixed use building. These five, Class A, ADA-compliant buildings of University Park combine to create a campus village setting on ~6.96 acres of ground. The complex houses 1,310 beds, 900 of which are dormitory/residence hall style housing, plus two resident hall coordinator apartments, and the remainder includes one-, two-, and four-bedroom apartment-style units. University Park is staffed by WVU employees, provides community rooms, study areas, laundry facilities, and both WVU dining and retail food options. Security features include WVU police monitoring, 24-hour security cameras, secure card access to rooms and buildings, illuminated campus village with sidewalks and signage, and an illuminated pedestrian bridge to Ruby Memorial Hospital and WVU’s Health Sciences Campus. The 13,527 sq. ft. mixed-use facility houses retail space with all 1st floor exterior store fronts. Retail tenants include IHOP, Anytime Fitness, Smoothie King, American Dry Cleaners, and a nail salon. The remainder of this building is comprised of student apartments. Dedicated parking for the convenience of commercial tenants and their customers is located immediately adjacent to the Mixed-Use building. University Park’s retail space benefits both students and area residents. The campus village is designed to improve student experience and campus life as well as provide retail options for the entire community. University Park is situated in the heart of WVU’s Evansdale Campus and within walking distance of WVU’s Health Sciences Campus, Ruby Memorial Hospital, Milan Puskar Stadium, WVU’s College of Law, and WVU’s Main Transportation Hub.
